Recently lost my job, worked as a data scientist/analyst for the last 3 years in a financial company.
I want to know
a. which companies are hiring?
b. should I expand my search to data engineer, or should I focus on data analyst/scientist roles.

Very sorry to hear that, would love to offer some support to you or anyone unders similar situation.
a. The good news is that companies are still hiring, but definitely slowing down from what I've seen. From major FAANG companies to startups, I've seen new posts coming out on my network every week.
b. I think casting a wider net is a good idea, but to make sure your skills are a good fit, as data engineer definitely will require more coding interviews. If you are not comfortable with data structures and algorithms, it might be challenging to pass the interview.
